Attack by the Director of the Geodynamic Institute of Athens, Akis Tselentis, on seismologist Gerasimos Papadopoulos, after his prediction of a magnitude 6 earthquake, in Corinth
The reaction of the director of the Geodynamic Institute – professor of seismology, Akis Tselentis, was intense. in the statements made by his fellow professor, Gerasimos Papadopoulos and caused a pan-Hellenic sensation.
The latter said that the Corinthian Gulf has had an earthquake – over 6 Richter – since 1995, when the big one occurred in Agios, and because there is periodicity in such phenomena, based on scientific studies, we should expect a big one sooner or later event over 6 points!
Mr. Tselentis “took them to the skull” and replied with harsh words: “He told us the same about Thebes. Last year, it took me a year to calm people down. Then the same for Evia. When he catches all of Greece, something will happen and he will make us the prophet. Now it will destroy tourism in our islands.” In fact, Mr. Tselentis conveyed the public’s concern, such as a message from a woman, who informed him that she had been terrorized in her area!
Mr. Tselentis also pointed out that all of Greece is an earthquake-prone area, but seismologists are not prophets to come out every three or so and report where an earthquake will occur! “There is also tourism, summer is coming, but this is not what Mr. Papadopoulos is thinking about when he says his inaccuracies…” he emphasized.
