A doctor, the owner of an assisted reproduction unit, the unit’s embryologist, the structure’s secretary, as well as a Romanian woman who allegedly acted as a “broker” in the illegal adoptions were deemed to be in custody.
In the early hours of the morning today – shortly after 03:00 – the process of the apologies of a total of eight persons who were arrested and according to the case file filed by ELAS, had formed a criminal organization and engaged in illegal adoptions and trafficking was completed in the Chania courthouse babies.
The process, which involved two investigators, was a marathon (it started at 08:00 on Sunday).

A midwife at the unit, a biologist at the unit, a worker at a city clinic and a foreigner who allegedly also acted as a “broker” in the illegal adoptions were found free with restrictive conditions.
The eight who were brought before the judicial authorities faced the charges of forming and joining a criminal organization, human trafficking, mediation in the adoption of minors as a profession, violations of the legislation on the implementation of medically assisted reproduction, forgery, disruption of family order , fraud, personal injury and drug law violations.
