The “war” that broke out in the island of Gavdos is raging, against the background of the controversy that prevails over the nudist beaches on the island
The “war” that broke out in the undeveloped area of Gavdos over signs and nudists is raging, while the Mayor, Mrs. Lilian Stefanaki, issued a related statement, entitled “Nudism and the law of the powerful”, against the background of the controversy that prevails over nudist beaches on the island.
In a new announcement by the Municipality of Gavdos it is stated:
“At 02.00 a.m. on 8/15/23, three people, two women and a man, well-known vacationers of the island, were spotted by people from the Municipality of Gavdos, while they were destroying the signs that had been placed, regarding the prohibition of nudity on the Sarakinikos beach and proceeded with the legal actions.
Recently, there has been a great disturbance between the local community and holidaymakers over the issue of nudism on this particular beach, where there are permanent and holiday homes as well as most of the island’s shops.
For the systematic destruction of the specific signs, the Municipality of Gavdos has previously filed complaints for damage to public property. The signs were immediately resisted to inform all visitors.
It should be noted that the Municipality of Gavdos is implementing the decision of the Municipal Council and the request of the local community for the existence of one of at least ten that exist on the island where every citizen, local or visitor, will be able to enjoy it equally”.
