In a related announcement issued today by the Senate of the University of Macedonia after stating that it “disagrees and condemns in the strongest possible way the occupation of the university premises”
The start of distance exams on Monday, February 5 was unanimously decided by the Senate of the University of Macedonia, according to the already announced departmental exam schedules. The first two weeks of the examination will be transferred to the end of the examination period.
In a related statement issued today by the Senate of the University of Macedonia, after stating that it “disagrees and condemns in the strongest possible way the occupation of the university premises, as an event in keeping with the democratic traditions of the Greek state, it appeals “for an immediate end to the occupation and the start of the dialogue about the problems and needs of the Greek public university”.
The obstruction – he adds – of teaching work and exams undermines the prestige of the public university as a place of teaching and learning, and is very far from the real needs and priorities of students. The impossibility of access to infrastructures and laboratories hinders the progress of research programs and puts in immediate danger the interruption of the institution’s research contribution. The suspension of administrative functions leads to aggravating delays in financial and administrative affairs, with the students primarily affected and all kinds of university staff secondarily, the members of the senate explain and emphasize that “the occupation leads to the discrediting of the public university and is the best, albeit falsely, an advertisement for the need to create private universities”.
In its announcement, the Senate of the University of Macedonia states that it “shares the concern of students, teachers and Greek society about the future of public Higher Education in the country, especially in view of the creation of private university institutions.
It reserves the right to express its views on the planned legislation, immediately after its submission to the public consultation” while “encouraging students to contribute to the smooth operation of the institution and the promotion of the dynamics, quality and efficiency of public higher education”.
As stated “the Senate, with a sense of responsibility towards the students of the University of Macedonia and the Greek society, has until today taken all the necessary actions so that, despite the irregularity caused by the occupations, the required 13 teaching weeks of the fall semester and will exhaust every possibility to accelerate the return to academic normality. Following the urgent Ministerial circular of 25.01.2024, the Senate concludes with the decision to conduct examinations by remote methods, despite the academic and additional difficulties arising both from the nature of the remote forms of examination and from the inability of the administrative and teaching staff to attend on the premises of the University due to the ongoing occupation” setting the day of their opening on Monday 5/2/24.
The Senate of the University of Macedonia will meet again next week and reassess the situation.
The exams are also digital at EKPA
The examination will also be conducted digitally at the Kapodistrian University. The announcement in more detail:
Regarding the educational function and the examination period:
The University ensures the uninterrupted continuation of its educational function for its tens of thousands of students. Following the conclusion of the meeting of the Rectors’ Synod, on the subject of the framework for conducting the educational process, regarding distance education for the completion of the teaching semester and distance evaluation by conducting the exams, the Senate of the University met today Wednesday 31/01/2024 and decided:
The assessment of students, where it is not possible to teach and conduct exams in person, will be done by electronic means, taking the necessary technical and organizational measures to implement the examination process with methods of modern remote assessment and at the same time ensuring the personal data of those who participate in the examination process, as well as the immutability of the process.
For the remote conduct of the exams, by Monday 5/2/2024, the updated program of the winter semester examination period will be published by academic Department, as well as detailed instructions to students and teachers. For this reason, a Committee for the support of remote examinations is being formed.
