On Sunday, June 11, the Orthodox Church celebrates the sleeping of the modern Russian Saint Luke the Physicianwho was born on April 14/27, 1877 in Kerch on the Crimean peninsula, at the age of 70 he became archbishop of Simferopol and Crimea and fell asleep on Sunday, June 11, 1961, the day celebrated by All Saints of Holy Russia, at the age of 85, in Simferopol.

His tomb became the “Pool of Siloam” for countless believers who worshiped the doctor and sought healing from the diseases that afflicted them while countless miracles were reported.

In November 1995, the Russian Church officially beatified Archbishop Luke.

On March 17, 1996, his remains were solemnly collected – among them were found indestructible the eyes of, o brainthe lungs and the heart of.

It is reported that 40,000 people attended the collection

Three days later, on March 20, 1996, his remains were transferred to the Holy Church of the Holy Trinity.

The “house” of Saint Luke the Physician, in the Sagamata Monastery

The historic Monastery of the Transfiguration of Sotiros – Sagamata, one of the oldest monasteries, is built at an altitude of 747 meters on the top of Mount Sagamata. About half an hour away from Thebes and 8 kilometers from the Athens – Lamia National Highway (80th km)

In the Monastery there is a specially designed area where there are relics of Saint Luke, and a large collection of personal belongings of the Saint as well as his oil.

From this chapel the place took its name, as the House of Saint Luke in Greece, which every year, on his feast day, is filled with believers.

Part of the relics of Saint Luke the Physician are housed these days in Piraeus.

From last Thursday, June 6, 2024 until June 13, 2024, a fragment of the holy relic of Saint Luke is hosted in the Holy Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Piraeus, with crowds of people flocking every day to worship.
