K. Arvanitis spoke about the tragedy of Tempe, and denounced the fact that “the government does not give explanations and provides full immunity to the minister in charge at the time”
In high tones was the speech of the MEP of SYRIZA-PS Costas Arvanitis at the inter-parliamentary meeting of the Committee on Civil Liberties and Justice of the European Parliament (LIBE) on the subject of the rule of law in Europe and with the participation of MPs from the Parliaments of all member states.
As recorded in the announcement issued by the MEP, Mr. Arvanitis referred to “the surveillance scandal, the unsolved murder of Giorgos Karaivaz, the reckless use of force by the police and the interventions in the work of justice”.
K. Arvanitis spoke about the tragedy of Tempe, and denounced the fact that “the government does not give explanations and provides full immunity to the then competent minister and current member of parliament, who “is not even called upon to give explanations”.
The speech of Mr. Arvanitis provoked the reaction of the Dodecanese MP of the ND, Vassilis Ypsilantis, who protested by interrupting the proceedings.
The president of the LIBE committee, Juan Fernando López Aguilar, recalled him to the class, reminding him that he is the chairman of the meeting, stressing that the democratic procedures of the European Parliament often include “hearing things we don’t like”.
