In new legal technical improvements, the leadership of the Ministry of Justice proceeded in the bill for the new criminal code that is being discussed in the Plenary Session of the Parliament, accepting proposals submitted by parties and competent bodies.

Particularly:

– The obligation of a preliminary or ex officio preliminary investigation is also added to misdemeanors, the jurisdiction of the Three-Member Misdemeanor Court, such as forgery of particularly large damage, infidelity of particularly large value and extortion.

-The competences of the Three-member Misdemeanor Court are expanded.

– The deadline for summoning the police officers, at the request of the accused, is increased from 5 to 10 days.

– It is stipulated that the Mixed Jury Court will decide on the main penalty, the circumstances on which its type and measure depend, as well as on the reasons for its increase or decrease. The regular Judges will decide on the rest.

It should be noted that in the morning, the Minister of Justice, Giorgos Floridis, submitted an amendment according to which the mandatory appointment of an Advocate is extended to misdemeanors that belong to the substantive jurisdiction of the three-member Misdemeanor Court.

The discussion of the bill will continue tomorrow, when it will end with its passing.

Only ND MPs have stood in favor of his principle, while all the Opposition parties have declared that they will vote against it.
