“The new corruption scandal within the European Parliament reminds us of the enormous hypocrisy and amorality of leadership and political groups that make up the majority,” SYRIZA said in a statement.

It is recalled that Belgian justice suspects that Huawei’s Chinese Technology Grounders have been bribed 15 MEPs (now or former), in order to promote the company’s commercial policy in Europe. Arrests of people working or working for Huawei were made after surveys conducted in their homes and offices.

After investigations, this Thursday morning, which led to the arrest of Huawei telecommunications giant lobbyists, the doors of the offices of two parliamentary assistants “allegedly involved” were sealed in the European Parliament.

In detail the SYRIZA announcement regarding the case:

“The new corruption scandal within the European Parliament recalls the enormous hypocrisy and amorality of leadership and political groups that make up the majority

Following the “surprise” and the heavy words that followed Qatargate, in practice they refused to adopt the proposals of the competent committees and the recommendations of international organizations and international transparency for a framework that will prevent new scandals and secure transparency and rules for their relationships.

Even the inadequate measures that they announced would be implemented were subsequently undone. Just a few weeks ago, the EPP, in collaboration with the far -right, voted to block the creation of the Parliament’s Council of Ethics, not to appoint experts and remove the budget for its operation. And now, they will again appear “surprised” and “frustrated” by the new corruption case and will announce the same measures they refuse to implement for two years. As they had ignored the warnings for Qatargate.

The involvement of MEPs by the EPP, the Socialists, the ECR of Meloni and Lepen’s Patriots, confirms our criticism but is not a small part of the problem. As it has been shown, the EU is a culture of corruption and nepotism that leads the institutions to decline and depreciation by the citizens.

That is why we remain critics and require responsibility and decisive measures for transparency and accountability in institutions
