Justice grants parole to goalkeeper Bruno

The Justice of Rio de Janeiro granted parole to goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes, convicted of the death of model Eliza Samudio. The decision was signed by Judge Ana Paula Abreu Filgueiras on Thursday (12).

With parole, Bruno is only obliged to report quarterly to Justice at one of the units of Patronato Margarino Torres, in the state of Rio, to sign the attendance report and keep his address and activities updated.

In the decision, Filgueiras states that the former goalkeeper has been serving a sentence since 2019 under house arrest – a regime that establishes, for example, restrictions on time to return home.

For the judge, “there is no concrete obstacle [obstáculo] granting conditional release to the convict, insofar as he meets the objective requirement necessary since 04/10/2022, according to the calculation of the updated sentence certificate”.

The magistrate also points out that “the convict performed work activities” and “regularly complied with the conditions of house arrest”.

The case involving the former Flamengo goalkeeper and model Eliza Samudio surfaced in 2010. Bruno was sentenced to 22 years in prison, later reduced to 20 years and 9 months, for involvement in Eliza’s murder. The model’s body was not found.

Shortly after the result of the 2022 presidential elections, the goalkeeper drew attention by saying that he was in mourning for the defeat of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

“I fight. I fight for my life, for my family, for my nation. Thank you, President Jair Bolsonaro, for making me proud to be Brazilian,” he said at the time.

Also last year, the hiring of Bruno by a team from Búzios (RJ) caused controversy in the region. He ended up fired two days after his announcement.
