Beos: “Police are not honored by their inability to deal with a handful of fanatics”

Achilleas Beos made a complaint against the Police, referring to the incidents that happened in yesterday’s game between Volos and Olympiakos.

With the owner of the Magnesia team referring to the incorrect use of chemicals but also to the need to protect football.

“Undoubtedly, what took place yesterday at the Panthessaliko Stadium causes sadness and above all damages football itself.

As a Mayor and a simple sports fan, and not as an agent of football, I question, however, about the ongoing behavior of the Police who, in their attempt to enforce order and calm, ignite greater tensions and create serious problems in the ranks of healthy fans, even small ones children, but also those football players, who suffer from the reckless and generalized use of chemicals and stun grenades.

It is disappointing and disrespectful to the Police that they are unable to deal effectively with a small group, a handful of fanatical fans, who every time provoke tensions, and in the end “punish” the whole of the fans, as we have repeatedly pointed out in the meetings about security measures, unfortunately without being listened to. The solution, I repeat is not the widespread use of chemicals and flash bangs.

I hope the decision makers finally realize that football is a celebration and we should treat it as such. Let’s protect it and not, intentionally or unintentionally, add fuel to the fire of those who try to undermine it and downgrade it as a major social event.”
