New format in Stoiximan Basket League with Play-in!

Her next championship will have several changes compared to last year Stoiximan Basket League.

They will participate in the 2024/25 season 12 groups and the normal period will last 22 games. From then on, it was decided to implement the phase of Play-in for positions 7-10. In the new season there will be Playouts which will concern the teams that finished in positions 9-12, where after the end of the process the tail will be demoted.

Regarding the Playoffs, teams 1-8 will normally participate in a series of games best of 3with the winners advancing to the semi-finals and the losers of the series entering a ranking round for positions 5-8.

The semi-finals it will be a series of games best of 3, where the losers will play each other in a singles match for third place. On the other hand, the winners of the semi-final series will qualify in the finalswhere there the row will be best of 5.

Analytically:

The format with which the Stoiximan Basket League will be held in the 2024-25 season was decided at today’s (23/7) General Assembly of ESAKE, which took place in an excellent atmosphere of cooperation and exchange of views. Read the decisions to improve the Championship and Super Cup pairings.

*The regulation on the number of foreign players of each KAE remains as it was. 6+1 is maintained while the only change concerns the finals. There the teams can choose the seven before the start of the finals from more players who already have deposited contracts with ESAKE (including players with deposited contracts with ESAKE in force without the right to participate).

*It was agreed to take all the necessary actions and proposals to improve the competitiveness of the Championship, following the proposal of KAE AEK to implement the salary cup. The teams will submit their proposals on what needs to be done to develop the Stoiximan Basket League by the end of the year.

Regarding the new format that will give more interest to the Stoiximan Basket League next season, with the introduction of a play-in system (7-10), a classification round (5-8) with particular emphasis on securing the European of tickets and playouts (9-12), is as follows:

Regular Season:

In the Stoiximan Basket League 2024-2025, 12 teams will take part in a 22-game regular season championship.

Play-ins (7-10):

In head-to-head matches with the highest-ranked home team in regular time, the winner of 7-8 takes seventh place. The loser of 9-10 takes tenth place. The loser of 7-8 and the winner of match 9-10 will meet and the winner will take the eighth place and the loser will take the ninth place. The teams that will occupy positions 1-8 will participate in the quarter-final series of the playoffs. The teams that will occupy positions 9-10 will continue in the playouts.

Playouts:

The two teams that were defeated in the play-in phase together with the eleventh and twelfth ranked Stoiximan Basket League regular season will make up the foursome of the playouts. In home and away matches everyone will play against everyone carrying the score and results from the regular season of the Stoiximan Basket League. Ninth, tenth and eleventh are ranked according to the final score while the twelfth team is relegated.

Playoffs

Quarter-Finals

They will be played in the established fashion (1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5) in a Best of 3 series with the teams that finished higher in the regular season standings having home field advantage. The teams that will qualify will get the ticket for the semi-finals while the losers will enter a classification round for places 5-8.

Classification Round (5-8)

The losers of the quarterfinal series of the playoffs continue in single games in order of ranking the teams with the highest points in the regular season.

The winner of 5-6 takes fifth place. The loser of 7-8 takes eighth place. The loser of 5-6 and the winner of match 7-8 will meet and the winner will take sixth place and the loser will take seventh place.

Semi Finals

The teams that advance from the quarterfinals will face off in the semifinals in Best of 3 series.

3rd Place Game

The losers of the semi-finals will play in a singles match for third place.

Finals

The winners of the semi-final series will be ticketed to the finals with the Champion being judged in a Best of 5 series.

* The new season for the Stoiximan Basket League begins in Rhodes where on September 28 and 29 the Super Cup will be held in which the first title of the coming season will be decided. In the semifinals of the first day, Panathinaikos AKTOR-Aris Midea and Olympiacos-Peristeri will face off.
