“Olympian Apostolos Christou” will now be the name of the Petroupoli swimming pool in honor of the “silver” Olympic champion of the 200 meter backstroke in Paris, who comes from the area. The Greek champion was moved by the honor given to him by the Municipal Council and thanked everyone for their kind words and for the decision to name the swimming pool.
He called it a huge honor and stated that the Municipality will be there to help if needed.
Christos was spoken by: The president of KOE, Kyriakos Giannopoulos, the deputy minister of sports, Yannis Vroutsis, the president of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and member of the International Olympic Committee, Spyros Kapralos, the Mayor of Petroupoli, Vangelis Simos, the president of the Union of Participants in Olympic Games, Voula Kozomboli, and the President of the Hellenic Association Olympians, Voula Zygouri.
The 1st Vice-President, Giorgos Afroudakis, the 2nd Vice-President, Ilias Malamas and the General Secretary, Dimitris Kyrkos, were also present on behalf of the KOE. Also, Christos’ coach, Panagiotis Velentzas, the General Secretary of Sports, Giorgos Mavrotas, and the coordinator-General Director of OAKA, Konstantinos Halioris.
