An announcement that came shortly after the offer of Panathinaikos Amateur, who proceeded with a rare action of sports solidarity, expressing intention to give players to AEK to be able to compete in the new UCITS Championship. In fact, the Union also referred to the Panathinaikos announcement.

“The AEK wheelchair basketball section was founded in 2018 by the current administration and as it mentions in its statutes, with the sole and clear goal of giving people with disabilities who wanted to play a wheelchair basketball and really wanted to wear the jersey with the biceps.
AEK has invested in the sport with wheelchairs and other equipment at a cost of € 50,000.
Unfortunately over the years, the sport was filled with demands that were completely escaped from the character for which the team was created. We understand the desire of many to turn a hobby into a lucrative employment and even without obligations and responsibility, but the purpose of our team was never.

The AEK has decided to suspend only the operation of the “5X5” team of the department, but maintain its equipment and trolleys for free use athletes wishing to participate in “3th 3” events and even a wheelchair handball matches.
When conditions are normalized and teams cease to be blackmail and species to exploit, AEK will activate the 5X5 section immediately.
