THE Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) announced today that cases of coronavirus on the American continent recorded reduction of 26% last week, while 19% fewer were due to Covid-19 in the same period. He warned, however, that some measures should be maintained to limit the spread of the virus.
THE american continent recorded last week 1.1 million new infections and 180,000 deaths patients due to complications of Covid-19.
“We all want the pandemic to end, but optimism alone is not enough to curb the virus. “It’s too early to relax,” said Carissa Etienne, director of the Pan American Health Organization. He even pointed out that the number of reported cases in some countries may not reflect reality due to the fewer tests performed.
Two years after the pandemic broke out, at least 6 million people died worldwide. Nearly half of all deaths from Covid-19 have been reported on the American continent, while 965,000 are victims of the disease in the United States.
It is also noteworthy that in the first two months of 2022, 63% of confirmed infections worldwide were on the American continent.
“I am afraid there is no return to normalcy at this stage. “We need to maintain some measures that have proven effective, and in particular increase vaccination coverage of the population,” Etienne said.
