Ukraine wants to see the document describing Russia’s proposals for a peace deal before sending a delegation to the peace talks in Constantinople, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Antriy Sibicha said Friday.

Russia has said it is preparing to send a group of negotiators to meet its Ukrainian counterparts to Istanbul on June 2, but Kiev has not yet confirmed that it will participate in talks, according to Reuters.

At a press conference on Friday, with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who has visited Kiev, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister did not reveal whether Ukraine would participate.

“In order to have the essence of the next scheduled meeting, it is important to receive a document in advance, so that the delegation that attend is confident that it will discuss the relevant positions.”Sibicha told reporters.

He said that, to date, Ukraine had not received the memorandum waiting for Russian negotiators with their proposals for the discussion in these conversations.

Sibicha did not specify what Kiev would do if he did not receive the Russian document, nor did he set a deadline for his receipt.

What did Fidan say from Kiev

Turkey hopes that Russia and Ukraine will largely complete work on technical issues in their subsequent possible talks aimed at ending war, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said today.

He added that Ankara wants to host a leaders’ summit then with the presidents of Turkey and the US.

Speaking at a press conference in Kiev, where he traveled after talks to Moscow earlier this week, Fidan said that May 16 talks between Russia and Ukraine in Constantinople – the first direct contact between them for three years – has been a new start.
