“What is important for us is to overcome the shock, regroup and correct our mistakes,” he underlined the president of SYRIZA PS, Alexis Tsipras, in an interview – his first since the May 21 elections – on the main news bulletin of STAR. He underlined that “SYRIZA is the only political force that has an alternative plan and program of power than the ND has”.

He spoke of a painful result that created great feelings of sadness and disappointment, and which was not expected, not only by SYRIZA, but by no one. When asked what he thought on election night, Alexis Tsipras commented that he is a human being, not a machine, “I have feelings” and that what he thought was resignation. He added that this feeling tormented him for a few days and emphasized that “when I got over the shock I realized that the only thing I have no right to do is to desert.”

Asked about the causes of SYRIZA’s result, he noted that “we are not looking to find the causes in the people and our opponents, they (the opponents) have always been against us, we are looking to find the causes in us, in the way we spread our message.” He spoke of an “image of Babylon” that was broadcast many times “by misguided statements of our executives” and strategic entrapment, noting that the simple analogy was and is our vision, but the political system was not mature enough to accept it. “We were trapped in proposing something that seemed unrealistic,” he said, noting that SYRIZA does not regret bringing in simple proportionality because the parity of the vote was and is its vision. He added that at the same time it was also proven that the majority of citizens seem to want self-reliance governments and not cooperation.

He stated that it is not a matter of narrative, “SYRIZA is the only political force that has an alternative plan and program of power to what the ND has” and that it publicly filed these proposals “and we saw that the attitude of the other progressive parties was hostile towards prospective cooperation”. He pointed out that SYRIZA’s continuous address was also a continuous investigation and that it would be inappropriate for him to come out to the people and say that he wants self-reliance.

Mr. Tsipras estimated that the main reason for this result had to do with “the tsunami that formed, as the opponent managed to impose the agenda of fear and discussion about the long past”, while the discussion should be based on what happened in ’19-’23. “Citizens went to the polls debating the misinformation that SYRIZA will supposedly increase contributions and not that the ND has already left freelancers and farmers without medical care.” “I, too, failed to direct the political discussion to the big stakes of the next day, which is with which program the country will be governed in the next four years,” he added.
