Russia has deported the US deputy ambassador to Moscow

by

THE US Embassy in the Russian Federation announced that the US Deputy Ambassador, Bart Gorban, had been deported from Russia, but the reasons for his deportation were not immediately clear.

“We can confirm that Russia has deported Deputy Chief of Mission Bart Gorman, who’s second in the embassy’s hierarchy and a key member of its team,” the embassy said in a statement.

The United States is considering various options to respond to Russia’s move, the embassy told TASS.

“The Russian deputy ambassador recently left as part of a rotation, as his term expired in January. “Russia’s actions against the US deputy ambassador were unjustified. We consider this move to burden relations and we are investigating possible options for a response,” the US diplomatic mission said.

The embassy claims that the visa held by the deputy head of the diplomatic mission was still valid. “Deputy Ambassador Gorban’s term had not yet expired: he still had a valid visa and had been in Russia for less than three years,” the embassy said.
