The trial of US President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, for illegal gun possession will begin on June 3, a court in Delaware, a state on the US east coast, announced yesterday.

Hunter Biden, 54, is high on the target list of his father’s Republican opponents, particularly his predecessor Donald Trump, as they apparently see him as the Democratic president’s Achilles heel. The adventures of Biden son are expected to be of even more concern in the near future, given the — unusually long — pre-election conflict of the candidates for the presidency in November Trump/Biden.

Judge Mariellen Noraica has set the weeks of June 3rd and 10th for jury selection, and the schedule will be determined after consultation with the parties.

Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to the case in October.

He is accused of making a false statement to authorities when he filled out a gun application in 2018: he denied being a drug addict.

He later admitted his drug addiction.

If convicted, Hunter Biden could face up to 25 years in prison, but such prosecutions in practice rarely result, unless accompanied by other criminal offenses, in jail or prison terms.

A lawyer, then a businessman, President Biden’s son reincarnated as a painter after recovering from drugs and alcohol.

He also pleaded not guilty in January to tax evasion in federal court in California (west), where he lives. The next preliminary hearing in this case is scheduled for March 27. The judge intends for the trial to begin on June 20.
